What are they?
Hurdle/Rack Rates(HRR) are a minimum and maximum value for your rate to move between. They ensure the recommendations made to you move between these points to stay in line with your rate strategy. They are set by date so they can be the same across extended periods, or different every day, depending on your needs.
Hurdle/Rack Rates are an integral part of our new Advanced Demand Algorithm (ADA) and so will need to be set for all Hotel Partners before we upgrade customers to this new system of recommendations.
Setting HRR for long date ranges
As the management of these will be handled by Hotel Partners, we have added HRR to the Settings section of Right Revenue. In most cases you will be setting HRR for broader date ranges rather than for single dates. This is handled in the Bulk Update part of the Settings section, which is directly below Calendar in the navigation.
Figure 1
The Bulk Update section is used for inputting broad ranges of dates for all of the Settings in Right Revenue. The main aspects are the same regardless of which of the different parts you are using. For HRR, start by selecting them from the drop-down menu in the top left of the screen.
Figure 2
You will then be asked to add a date range using from and too dates. For all of the settings, you can add up to a year at a time. Then you will add min and max rates for each room type required.
If you have full-open pricing you will need to add these for all room types, whereas if you have derived or hybrid pricing you will only need to add them for each parent room type.
Leave blank any room types that you don't need to set.
You will set HRR according to the days of the week. This pattern will be applied to all of the days in the period of dates that you have set. You can add values in the All Days boxes, and this will be applied to each day of the week. Then if you wish to alter individual days you can change the value in the corresponding box.
Figure 3
You can set any combination of days, or rates you want. Any box that you fill will set the rate (or overwrite the value that is already set) and any box that you leave empty will leave the rate as it is currently. Once you are happy with the date range that you have set, and the pattern of HRR on the days of the week, then got to the bottom of the screen and click the Submit button.
If you are setting HRR for the first time for that period of dates, then a small popup will appear at the top of the screen to let you know that they have been successful. If you already have them set for the range of dates then a popup will appear to show you what changes you are making to each dates. It will look like the image below.
Figure 4
If you are happy with the changes, then simply click OK - update hurdle/rack rates. This will overwrite the HRR displayed with your new ones.
Selling Rates outside of HRR for certain dates
Occasionally when you try to set your HRR, you will find that the selling rates on certain dates do not fall within the HRR boundaries that you want to set.
For example, you try to set £100 and £300 as your HRR for the DBL room, for 1/5/2026, but your selling rate for that day is currently £320 for the DBL.
In a situation like this we will not allow the HRR to be set. We will popup a box with details of each day where there is an issue and for each of these you will need to either adjust the selling rate for that day to be within the HRR boundaries, or adjust the HRRs for those dates to include the current selling rate. The box will look like the image below and will give you all the details that you need to make these changes.
Figure 5
You can export the list of issues using the button in the bottom left corner, but it is advisable to open another version of Right Revenue in a second tab in order to make the changes to selling rates, as when you navigate away from this screen you will lose the HRR values you have entered unless they have already been saved. If you are going to adjust the HRR values, then obviously this will not apply. If you proceed with setting the HRR the system will adjust any the are outside of the selling rates to match the current selling rate.
Other feedback
As well as informing you that you are setting Hurdle/Rack rates that your selling rates are outside of, the system will also give feedback for several other issues that it thinks may cause an issue for your recommendations. The first is if the gap between the two is too wide. Right Revenue recommends a maximum gap of 100% of the hurdle rates. If you enter a set of HRR that have a larger gap that this, you will see the following.
Figure 6
Right Revenue won't stop you from setting these values, but it will warn you each time. The second thing that the system will warn users about, is setting HRR for very long date ranges. A very static pattern of HRR will mean that the recommendations will not be working at optimum level. A pattern that reflects rate strategy for each month will work much better. If you are attempting to set HRR for long periods, you will see the following.
Figure 7
As above, we won't stop you from setting your HRR but we will warn you that we don't think the HRR being set will get the most from the system.
Default Values for HRR
As well as the values set for individual dates, we also require default values to be set so that if there is a date without HRR then the system will use the default values instead. These should be the absolute minimum and absolute maximum that you would sell at for each room type, but should only be considered a fall back for dates where a HRR is not set. You set the defaults by clicking the switch at the top of the standard HRR screen above the date inputs.
Figure 8
This will open a simplified version of the screen where you only need to add single values for each room type. Even if you have a derived, or hybrid pricing setup you should set these for ALL room types as they will provide a fall back if that pricing structure is ever changed.
Figure 9
As above, once you have the values that you want set, you click the Submit button at the bottom of the screen. You will see the same popup that will let you know if you have been successful or if there has been an issue.
Where can I see what I have set for a certain day?
The values set for each stay date can be checked in the Settings Calendar, which is accessed either from the main navigation at the top of the screen via Settings -> Calendar
Figure 10
On the Calendar, each date is shown along with details of the Settings that are in place for that day. Those that are set will be highlighted in Green (see below) with RRPL shown as "Hurdle/Rack".
Figure 11
If you then click on the Hurdle/Rack box it will expand to show the HRR set for that date. They are set by room type, and each room type with them set will be shown as below.
Figure 12
This information can also be accessed from the Rate Calendar, or the Recommendations Report. When you chose a particular date to change it will open the Recommendations Modal. If you chose the Settings Tab from the top menu, then click on one of the options shown it will direct you to the screen above.
Editing HRR for a single day
If you only want to adjust a HRR for a single day then you can follow the steps above to get to the screen shown above. On the right of the row for a room type is an edit button. If you wish to edit one that you already have set then clicking the edit button will open this popup (below).
Figure 13
You can then chose to edit the room type, the minimum rate or the maximum rate. Please note that all of these are required fields. Once you have made the required changes, click Save Hurdle/Rack and that will update them in the system. Any changes will apply from the next time the recommendations run which in most cases is the following morning at 04:00.
Setting HRR for a single day
To set a new HRR for a single day, please follow the steps above until you get to the screen shown in Figure 12. Then if you click the Add new button in the top right corner it will open the popup shown in Figure 13. You can then select a room type and add the hurdle and rack rates. Once completed, click Save Hurdle/Rack.
